about the e-f.i.l.e.™ system
The e-f.i.l.e.™ has been developed by english elements and the respective companies using the system as an interactive English language learning/filing tool which is accessible on a website (intranet) and designed to:
Meet the language needs and improve the language competence of companies and their employees.
Offer a universal company testing system which is motivating for learners of all abilities.
Develop Corporate Language Identity recording it, keeping it up to date and making it accessible on the internet to all company branches and subsidiaries.
Ensure job mobility through corporate language access.
Facilitate the insertion of language equivalents within the given framework for all European languages.
Be a language learning tool for all employees which also encourages language awareness (also of L1)
Intercultural exchange (through L2) in an attempt to dispel discrimination of those who do not have the opportunity to participate in company EL training.
The main elements of an english elements e-f.i.l.e.™ project comprise language management (organisation of personal language records), organisation of company related language and specific related lexical areas, resource text organisers using company written material, building the elements of language with word partnerships, business grammar organisation, professional meetings, presentation work and cultural language organiser relating to intercultural situations. This is intended to encourage language awareness and intercultural dialogue, as well as optimisation, monitoring, testing and further learning of English in Business (IBE International Business English. The structures of the english elements e-f.i.l.e.™ are also a tool to support corporate language identity, which is also helpful for job mobility within the company. The english elements e-f.i.l.e.™ should raise the standards of language learning and competences within commerce and industry. The content of the file is developed by english elements in collaboration with clients.
The e-f.i.l.e.™ is to be developed as a support for the optimisation of vocational linguistic and intercultural communication skills. To facilitate this the "elements" of language needed in the most diverse areas of a company, e.g. finance, marketing, human resources, production, marketing, sales and general communication are to be offered in the form of a "framework" in the intranet. With it a company can build up and on its own "Corporate Language (Identity)" with the help and support of a language specialist. As the framework is in English, companies with subsidiaries in several countries can build up their own file, researching into their own English language needs and inserting equivalents in their own native language with the help of english elements. Thus, content is steered by the trainee/employee; the language is steered by the trainer/specialist.
In our experience many employees find it very difficult to fit English language training into their busy schedules and yet they are becoming more and more dependent on English for business. Through access to the e-f.i.l.e.™ (or their already "corporate" e-f.i.l.e.™) on the Internet they can obtain or refer to already made presentations or other company specific vocabulary and also work quickly and efficiently "on the move" as well as keeping up with training which has taken place in their absence and adding valuable language input "on location".
A further concept behind the e-f.i.l.e.™ is to develop an effective way of monitoring language learning and offering a testing system which is not "demotivating" to those weaker learners in business who have to learn English for their work.
The english elements e-f.i.l.e.™ facilitates clear cross-border communication and addresses cross-cultural communication problems by creating an awareness of the students own ethnocentricity. Companies with several subsidiaries or branches in Europe can exchange or compare content and with it they can develop a lively interactive corporate language identity for their company image as well as building up their communication confidence for business on a European and International level.
